Chevalier to Exhibit New Machines

Chevalier will be exhibiting three new machines at WESTEC including the FVM-3016DCL, the FBL-360 slant-bed lathe and the FSG-1632ADIII surface grinder.

The FVM-3016DCL Series is designed to offer a heavy-duty structure, powerful spindle and state-of-the-art craftsmanship, the company said.

"The machine is carefully assembled to guarantee running accuracy," said Herbert Hou, Chevalier's National Sales Manager.

The machine's table size ranges from 126" x 57" to 165.4" x 57" with a table load ranging from 14,330 to 17,637 lbs. The XYZ travel ranges from 122" x 63" x 30.7" to 161.5" x 63" x 30.7".

The main construction of the machine is a one-piece portal frame mounted on a one-piece structure, a heavily ribbed cast-iron base that forms a steady foundation without vibration, the company said. The oversized column and box-type beam construction features additional machine rigidity. The whole travel of table is fully supported. The heavy-duty roller guide ways adopt a XYZ-axis, increasing acceleration and preventing stick-slip problems, said Chevalier.

"The spindle motor, ball screw and double counter-balancing cylinders are all properly located at the best positions to avoid unequal torque while ensuring the best structural accuracy," said the spokesperson. "A forced circulation cooling and lubrication system is applied to the spindle, bearing and gearbox to reduce thermal strain on the spindle and extend the life span."

The FANUC 0iMD is a standard control feature with an 8.4" TFT LCD display. The 0iMD control also comes with the AICC high-speed machining contour control. It has a smooth 3-D interpolation contouring control and an optional 200-block look-ahead function. An Ethernet connection, easy-access, front memory card slot and a huge data-server memory capacity are among the many standard features.

"The FVM-3016DCL Series also offers two spindle speeds: a 6,000 RPM, high/low-gear spindle range for ample power output and a hi-speed range for fine-cutting results," Hou said. "The spindle head is located at the center of the beam, providing high-movement accuracy, heavy-cutting capability and rigidity." The 30 HP motor with a two-speed gearbox can generate 609 NM torque.

"Every step of the manufacturing process involves a high level of quality control, so our customers can be assured that the products they receive from us are the very best available," Hou said. "After assembling, all Chevalier machines are measured and calibrated by state-of-the-art laser calibration and ball bar test equipment. This ensures precise verification and compensation of the machines, resulting in increased accuracy and repeatability."

The FBL-360, also to be exhibited, offers a 45-degree slant bed that has rigid box ways structure and programmable tailstock.

With its new design, the machine is engineered with ease of access and trouble-free maintenance in mind," said Hou. "These qualities are extremely important to many of our customers."

According to Hou, the tool setters help reduce set-up times and keep non-machining times to a minimum.

The FBL-360 slant-bed lathe features a 15" chuck, 4.5" bar capacity, 30.3" maximum swing, 22.4" maximum turning diameter, 80" maximum turning length, two-speed gear box and heavy-duty box ways.

The ribbed Meehanite cast iron mono-block casting, with hardened and ground hand-scraped slideways, helps resist deflection and vibration during heavy machining and ensures stable end-to-end cutting of long shafts.

The FBL-360 offers a flexible, accurate and efficient solution for mixed-volume, short-run or dedicated high-volume applications, delivering fast parts machining of bars up to 4.5" in diameter at speeds up to 2,500 RPM, X and Z travels of 12.6" and up to 78" and 708 IPM rapid traverse. The X- and Z-axes positioning accuracy is 0.0002" while repeatability is 0.0001".

Standard features include: FANUC 0i-TD control with C-axis, simple servo controlled system, automatic operation (memory) and linear and circular interpolation functions.

The lathe features 35 HP, AC digital spindle motor with a two-speed gearbox and 15" hydraulic chuck. It produces 735 ft-lbs torque at lower RPM. The fast 10-position servo-indexing turret offers 0.5 secs. tool indexing time. The OD shank is 1-1/4", and the boring bar holds up to 2.5". The fast 10-position servo indexing turret offers 0.5 secs. tool indexing (next tool).

Standard equipment includes a 12" 3-jaw hydraulic chuck, hard- and soft-jaw, chip conveyor, coolant system with movable coolant tank and central lubrication system.

The FSG-1632ADIII, the third machine to be in action at WESTEC, offers precision surface grinding and includes the new touch-screen control station that is adjustable to a comfortable position for the operator. "Switches, buttons, LEDs and indicating lamps are all combined in a touch display that is ergonomically positioned to provide the best user-friendly operation," said Johnson Lan, Chevalier Vice President.

The FSG-1632ADIII structure includes 3-axes needle roller slideways that are a matched set. The wheelhead and column way system is composed of hardened and ground-inserted steel guideways. Low-friction wheelhead guideway system enables accurate feeds even at 0.001 mm increments while providing extended life. The floor space is up to 140" x 68" x 81-7/8" with a machine weight up to 6,400 lbs.

The FSG-1632ADIII table size is up to 15-3/4" x 31-1/2" longitude and up to 16" crosswise. The maximum distance from table surface to spindle centerline is 24-7/16". The saddle incorporates a specially designed play-compensating feed nut and hardened ground leadscrew, resulting in the elimination of backlash. The spindle is supported by four Class 7 super-precision angular contact ball bearings, which have been accurately measured, selected and preloaded and then assembled in a temperature-controlled clean room. The spindle is permanently lubricated and requires no maintenance. Rated power is up to 8.5 kW with a 5 HP spindle motor speed up to 1,750 RPM. The hydraulic system power rated at 2 HP, crossfeed drive power rating is 1/6" HP and the elevating drive power rating is AC servo 1 kW.

Standard FSG-1632ADIII accessories include a toolbox, touch-up paint, balancing arbor, diamond dresser with diamond, grinding wheel, splashguard and leveling pads.

Also at WESTEC, Chevalier will display the FNL-250Y turning and milling machine. "The FNL-250Y/SY turning and milling machine is a versatile linear roller guide way machine that provides rigidity and relays very fast linear motion," Hou said.
