NMI and InnovMetric Software Offer Scanner/Point Cloud Solutions

"Nikon Metrology. Inc. (NMI) and InnovMetric Software are partnering to offer scanner/point cloud solutions," said a company spokesperson. "For customers who do not currently have a software solution or are looking for improved results, the Polyworks V12 3D metrology suite will be the recommended product solution for use with Nikon Metrology scanners, which include CMM scanners, handheld/articulated arm scanners, robot scanners and optical CMM scanners.

"NMI's all-digital LC60Dx laser line CMM scanner with CMOS technology is designed to be an evolutionary step forward from the LC60D CMM laser scanner. The LC60Dx features higher accuracy, resulting in a typical MPEp value of 7 micron, according to EN ISO 10360-5. This brings the scanner in the accuracy range of tactile measurement while capturing 75,000 measurement points a second. By acquiring a multitude of measurement points, the LC60Dx digitizes freeform shapes and supports accurate feature extraction.

"The accuracy, usability and performance of NMI's digital ModelMaker handheld scanner make it suitable for all inspection, reverse engineering and other 3D data capture applications. The MMDx scanners are designed to be a leap forward in 3D digitizing, featuring enhanced sensor performance of the third generation (esp3), making it suitable to scan any material and optimized for hard-to-scan surfaces. Also, the scanner provides optimum resolution for scanning freeform surfaces and features efficiently.

"PolyWorks' V12 is a self-learning, parametric, traceable and updatable solution that automatically records the operator's intent and adapts to new measurement contexts. The PolyWorks platform fully supports Nikon Metrology's high-density point cloud digitizers, arm-based and hand-held probing devices and manual CMMs for hybrid metrology applications. It features a set of data-to-CAD alignment techniques that include constrained surface and cross-sectional best-fit, best-fit within tolerance, as well as techniques based on features, reference points, flush and gap gauges and more. This combination of NMI scanners and PolyWorks V12 provides the widest range of comparison and measurement tools for a complete analysis of surface, boundary, cross-sectional deviations, GD&T controls, profile radius, airfoil dimensions, clearance, thickness and more. PolyWorks' user-friendly macro-programming language offers advanced process customization and its 'Xtreme' graphical user interface provides fully customizable menus and toolbars, that when combined with Nikon Metrology's scanners, is suitable for corporate-wide deployment."

Robert Wasilesky, Senior Vice President of Sales, the Americas, said, "Nikon Metrology's belief is to keep providing great solutions to our customers. The strategic partnership between Nikon Metrology and InnovMetric provides to our automotive and aerospace customers, application innovation and measurement efficiency never before realized."

"InnovMetric is pleased of this agreement signed with Nikon Metrology Inc., who will offer PolyWorks with their Nikon handheld MMD scanners and K-Series 3D digitizer systems," said Marc Boulanger, Director of Worldwide Sales at InnovMetric Software Inc. "Nikon has a vast portfolio of products in 3D portable metrology, and this new integration will clearly benefit the North American automotive, aeronautics and other industrial manufacturing Nikon user community."

Alex Lucas, Business Development Manager of Scanning Products, said, "Nikon Metrology's line of ModelMakerX (MMDx) laser scanners, offer high accuracy, scanning performance on any surface and a fast data capture rate at up to 80,000 points per second."
