Available in two spindle sizes (27 or 42 mm) and capable of holding extremely tight tolerances and fine surface finishes, the Hardinge Quest Super-Precision Gang Tool Turning Center was introduced in the 1980s and since that time has gone through numerous upgrades and improvements to keep pace with a rapidly changing manufacturing environment. Everything from bone screws to parts for pacemakers, heart valves, monitoring devices to the latest infusion pumps have been made on Hardinge Gang Tool Machines.
"The latest version of the Hardinge Quest Super-Precision Gang Tool Turning Center is designed to achieve continuous machining accuracies, critical to the manufacture of medical devices," said a company spokesperson. "The machine delivers results like these: .0002"/5 micron on diameter, part roundness variation of .000008" to .000014" and part surface finish variation of 1 to 1.5 micro-finish."
Built into every machine are:
- Hardinge patented interchangeable top plate for quick and accurate tooling changes. Pre-tooled top plates can be quickly interchanged within .0002 inch repeatability to produce a new part or family of parts.
- The HARCRETE machine base is stiffer than cast iron resulting in improved stability and 1/3 less vibration at the spindle. This provides better part surface finishes.
- Hardinge collet-ready spindle for maximum rigidity and gripping power. The collet seats directly in the spindle with minimum overhang from the spindle bearings; spindle accuracy is transferred directly to the workpiece.
