Manufacturers who visit OMAX Corporation during the MFG4 event will discover how advanced abrasive waterjet technology can efficiently support the increasing production demands of the aerospace, defense, medical and energy sectors, the company said. OMAX will showcase its 5555 JetMachining Center paired with a 30 HP EnduroMAX Pump and Tilt-A-Jet cutting head to demonstrate precision machining of small to medium-sized parts.
"Suitable for a range of production runs, prototype development and just-in-time manufacturing, the OMAX 5555 is designed to provide machine shops quick turnarounds of precision parts without the hassle of tool changes or complex fixturing," said a company spokesperson. "Another key feature of the 5555, as with all OMAX abrasivejet machines, is that it cuts smooth surface finishes, eliminating the need for secondary machining. And unlike conventional machining operations, waterjet machinists enjoy clean, safe processes that are free of noxious gases, liquids and oils.
"The OMAX 5555 is a cantilever-style machine that is designed to be robust and reliable. It employs a completely sealed and protected ball screw drive system and features an accuracy of motion as tight as +/-0.003 inches. Furthermore, the 5555 can machine complex parts out of most materials, including metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, stone and composites, directly from a CAD drawing or DXF file."
Offering a footprint of 10' 11" x 7' 11", the OMAX 5555 is suitable for space-challenged facilities. It employs an X-Y cutting travel of 4' 7" x 4' 7" and comes standard with the company's Intelli-MAX Software Suite, which runs on the Windows 7 Ultimate operating system. The software precisely calculates the velocity of a tool path at over 2,000 points per inch, allowing for complete control over the motion of the abrasivejet. Additionally, the software automates most programming and tool setup work, virtually eliminating the need for extensive operator training, the company said. Free software upgrades are available for the life of the OMAX machine.
The 5555 JetMachining Center comes with the high efficiency EnduroMAX Pump, available in 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, or 100 HP with pressures up to 60,000 PSI. MFG4 attendees will experience the machine's performance using a 30 HP pump.
Accessories include the Tilt-A-Jet cutting head, which MFG4 attendees will see in action on the 5555 machine. The Tilt-A-Jet cutting head is designed to let any OMAX system achieve virtually zero taper with most materials for precision cutting of parts with square, taper-free edges, including interlocking pieces and dove tail fittings. Through its controller software, the Tilt-A-Jet can automatically calculate and adjust the angle of the nozzle to accurately offset the natural taper from the jet stream and transfer it to the scrap part of the material-all while maintaining extremely high cutting rates, said OMAX.
