New Double Square Shank and Quad Square Shank Static Toolholders from EXSYS ToolMay 1, 2012
Designed to increase tool turret capacity, the new Double Square Shank and Quad Square Shank static toolholders from EXSYS Tool, Inc. allow for having two or four inserts, as opposed to just one, in a single tool turret station. EXSYS EPPINGER developed the Y-axis, O.D. cutting holders specifically for Mazak QUICK TURN NEXUS 200-II/250-II MY and MSY Series Turning Centers that feature Y-axis cutting capability and VDI tool turrets.
The Double Square Shank holder provides for two turning inserts, one on the left side of its shank and another on the right side. And for even greater tool capacity, the Quad Square Shank holder accommodates four inserts, two located on each side of its shank. With this multiple insert capability, different types of inserts, such as those for roughing and those for finishing, can be located in the same station. This frees up other stations and eliminates having to index the machine turret to switch from one insert to the next when they are located in separate stations.
Both new model toolholders are 1" in size and secure inserts using high-force wedge assemblies. Shanks are solid and made from vibration-dampening steel, a design that provides consistent rigidity for aggressive turning applications, the company said.
