The Tungaloy Corporation has now extended its series of AH905 grade for the turning of difficult to machine materials and super alloys to incorporate a new line of positive inserts. The new inserts are available with six types of chip breakers that cover applications from medium to finish cutting.
"The new AH905 series is suitable for turning of super alloys with performance that can improve speeds, feeds and productivity by up to 40%," said a company spokesperson. "Available in Tungaloy's PSF, PSS, PS, RS, 61 and 'All-round' chipbreakers, the AH905 can improve productivity with its special surface technology 'PremiumTec' that prevents chip adhesion and improves chip flow. The PVD coated inserts are suitable for machining components in the aerospace and power generation industries.
"The new (AlTiN) PVD coating offers wear resistance that guarantees consistent performance and long tool life. For finish turning operations, the PSF type is the first choice chip breaker for machining with low cutting forces while offering wear resistance," the spokesperson said. "Suitable for turning at low depths of cut, the PSF is designed to eliminate any potential chip control issues.
"To compliment the PSF geometry, Tungaloy offers its PSS and PS chipbreakers. The PSS is suited to light machining and in particular internal turning operations. The PS type is an economical 'M' class insert that has been developed for highly productive boring operations.
"For a multitude of processes Tungaloy has designed its 'All-round' chipbreaker that is applicable for a wide range of continuous and interrupted machining processes. The All-round has a geometry that generates low cutting forces with good chipping resistance.
"To accommodate light to medium cutting of super alloys, Tungaloy has applied its RS and 61 type chip breakers in round inserts. The RS chip breaker adopts a large rake angle to optimize chip control, while the 61 type offers high feed turning at small depths of cut. All inserts in the AH905 range incorporate the optimal combination of edge sharpness and wear resistance.
"When machining super alloys, the AH905 prevents insert damage with its wear resistance."
