United Grinding Technologies (UGT) has announced that C.J. Harter & Son Machinery Inc., (Houston and Dallas, TX) has expanded UGT's reach in Texas.

In 1926, Charles J. Harter moved to Dallas from Missouri and opened the Texas Machine Tool Sales Office for Joseph T. Ryerson & Sons of Chicago. Two years later, he joined D.S. Mair Machinery Company as a partner and opened a new Dallas office.

C.J. Harter & Son Machinery Inc. was founded in 1939 when, on the death of Mr. Mair, Mr. Harter became sole owner. Houston became the main office, and the branch in Dallas remained active. The company continued to grow with the addition of Landis Machine in 1939, Landis Tool in 1940 and LeBlond in 1951.

Charles Harter III became President and CEO after the death of his father in 1974. Harter bought Green Machinery Company in Dallas and Steel & Machine Tool Sales in Houston and in doing so became the distributor for Kearney & Trecker and Carlton Machine Tool Company in 1975.

C.J. Harter & Son Machinery Inc. is the oldest (1941) Texas member of the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association (AMTDA). The company has two locations: one in Houston and another in Dallas and represents United Grinding's complete line of machines.
