Illinois-based Machinery Systems, Inc. (MSI) is showcasing its latest productivity-improving machine tool technology from Mazak, including the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY at its facility. MSI is demonstrating Mazak's capabilities in processing challenging workpieces and provide expert application advice.
"Manufacturers with frequent production changes due to constantly fluctuating industry environments will find special interest in the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY as it has the flexibility to quickly adjust part volumes, switch from one job to the next and squeeze in the frequently occurring hot emergency jobs," said a company spokesperson.
Designed for medium to high volume production, the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY is a highly advanced CNC turning center with twin spindles, twin turrets and Y-axis capability to complete balanced cutting operations or simultaneous first and second operations.
"We want our customers to have every advantage to be successful in today's highly competitive manufacturing landscape," said Eric Hilliard, Vice President, MSI, Illinois Mazak Group. "That's why we're opening our doors to show them they can do more with less using the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY. This machine allows shops to diversify their operations and easily switch between medium and high volume work. The machine tool market is experiencing a shortage of qualified, skilled labor and this new Mazak technology helps ease that pressure."
Enhanced done-in-one processing allows the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY to machine complete parts from bar material utilizing collet chucks or slug material with 3-jaw chucks in one setup. Additionally, the balanced cutting capability by the upper and lower turrets provides the ultimate part throughput, with Y-axis as a standard feature, ensuring manufacturers can machine a wider range of workpieces in shorter time. The HYPER QUADREX 100MSY's 7.5 HP, 6,000 RPM live milling spindles allow for more aggressive time savings.
Major HYPER QUADREX 100MSY technologies include twin opposed turning spindles with 6,000 RPM and 15 HP each, plus full C-axis CNC control for part positioning and contouring at a resolution of 0.0001-degree. It also carries upper and lower 12-station VDI quick-change turrets for fixed and rotating tools. The Y-axis capability for each turret allows for off-centerline operations.
"The twin-turret and twin-spindle configuration of the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY gives manufacturers more innovative part processing opportunities," said a company spokesperson. "The main and secondary spindles can operate together or separately, allowing a single part to be machined on all surfaces through a coordinated 'hand-off' between spindles, or two different parts can be machined simultaneously on one machine.
"Because the twin turrets can operate independently or together on the same workpiece, the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY allows for machining two part features simultaneously or for balanced machining strategies that involve two tools working together on the same part feature. In cases where the part configuration permits, balanced machining can remove up to 25% of the cycle time.
"For durability and reliable operation, the HYPER QUADREX 100MSY axis travels incorporate Mazak's MX Hybrid Roller Guide System for long-term machine accuracy. The Mazak MX Hybrid Roller Guide System dampens vibration to extend tool life, handles higher load capacities, accelerates and decelerates quicker to shorten cycle times, consumes less oil for 'greener' operations and lasts longer with less required maintenance."
The HYPER QUADREX 100MSY, when paired with the optional bar feeder system and workpiece unloader, allows manufacturers to achieve continuous unmanned operations from bar material to finished workpiece. The unloader hand prevents any marring of the finished workpiece surface.
