Shop Floor Automations Releases Software-as-a-Service Model

Shop Floor Automations (SFA) has released a new Data Collection in a Cloud "Saas" product on April 16th, 2012.

"Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) technologies are expensive and start with a pilot program on a few machines; the SFA 'Software As-A Service' (Saas) model is totally different," said a company spokesperson. "At WESTEC, on Wednesday, March 28, there was an important presentation: 'Cloud Based Machine Utilization, Downtime and OEE Collected & Displayed Real-Time.' This event revealed how real time utilization and OEE information can now be collected with no database or reporting servers to install or maintain, all with no large upfront purchase costs.

"This new data collection system has the ability to track multiple types of cycle time. Cycle time can be tracked from a hardware adapter and through MTConnect or Fanuc Focas. Reporting on metrics such as utilization and efficiency, it runs both sets of cycle time and then compares data."

Josh Davids, President of Scytec and Developer, said, "DataXchange supports Ethernet based protocols greatly reducing or eliminating hardware at each piece of equipment. It also supports RS-232 serial devices such as CNC machines, CMMs, scanners and RFID hardware. Data collection from MTConnect or Fanuc Focas is great and the direction of the future, yet many times there's a need to collect from manual equipment. Keying off of voltage, current or presence sensors are all methods used as input into DataXchange to identify the state of the equipment."

Real time configurable dashboard viewing of shop floor data with automatic updating is essential. DataXchange has a user configurable dashboard displaying a variety of information, all updating in real time. The views are configurable allowing the dashboard to be used for visual manufacturing on the shop floor, as well as a tool for management, maintenance and quality departments. All of the data can be viewed from inside or outside the facility.

Davids said, "We don't limit the number of computers, phones or tablets that the software runs on. We don't limit the number of concurrent users looking at data. Accessing the collected data is unlimited and can be accessed in the facility, on the road, from home; the data is available at all times from any location."

DataXchange is written from the ground up utilizing the latest technologies such as .NET, REST web services and Windows Presentation Foundation. It is designed to evolve with the industry and integrate with other systems such as ERP solutions. There are no database or web servers to purchase or maintain because Scytec houses and maintains the servers in a secure data center, reducing implementation and maintenance costs. There will be one PC on site which will aggregate the data from the equipment and take care of ensuring the data is successfully and securely transferred to the data center and available for immediate reporting.

DataXchange is designed for multiple facilities across time zones, supporting multiple languages based on the user login.
