Full 5-Axis Milling

MC Machinery now offers full 5-axis vertical milling machines designed for rigid, high-powered precision. According to the company, two 12,000 RPM models, the LU620 and LU800, cover a full range of travels, rotary table sizes, capabilities and footprints.

According to the company, both the LU620 and LU800 feature an advanced technology direct coupled spindle. This spindle is designed to ensure high torque at low RPM ranges, while offering high rotational stability with compound ceramic bearings at 12,000 RPM. Heidenhain iTNC-530 HSCi five-axis controls are designed to make the machines capable of 0.5 ms block processing speeds, with software enhancements to provide a smooth finish. An optimized contacting ratio between the spindle head and machine column provides spindle head rigidity during heavy cutting loads and ensures the geometric precision of the spindle. Both machines use finite element analysis designed to calculate the optimal combination of cast-iron components and rib structures, maximizing efficiency and saving time.

"MC Machinery Systems' LU620 packs a big machine's rigidity, and the precision that it affords, into a compact package with a max rotary table weight of 660 lbs.," said a company spokesperson. "It has a 88.9" by 100.8" by 118.1" footprint. It features a Meehanite-cast base designed to support the B/C axes, while large cast, boxed construction supports the X, Y and Z axes cross slide assembly. All axes are driven by high-power, synchronous direct drive motors for cutting performance. The rigid box construction uses direct-coupled servo motors and linear glass scales for speed and precision. Also, both the B and C axes use direct-drive motors with rotary shaft encoders designed for accuracy during high-speed rotation. The standard ATC carries 32 tools."

According to the company, MC Machinery Systems' LU800 five-axis vertical machining center's gantry construction is designed to handle heavy workpieces with high precision. Max rotary table weight capacity is 2,200 lbs. The rotary table itself has an A-axis tilt angle of +/-120 degrees while the C-axis can rotate a full 360 degrees. Separate direct drive servo motors and shaft encoders are used on each axis with dual motors on the A axis. Hydraulic clamping is used on both axes providing high reliability. A standard 32-tool ATC can be expanded to a second unit for a total of 64 BBT, with 40 tools available.
