Horizontal Boring Mill Model with Rotary Table and Movable Ram

Lucas, A Fermat Group Company, introduced its new horizontal boring mill model with rotary table and movable ram - WFT 15 R CNC. This model provides a larger spindle diameter than the WFT 13 CNC. The 150 mm (5.9") spindle diameter and 700 mm (27.55") ram travel in combination with a table load up to 20 tons. It is designed for a wide range of machining operations being performed on large parts within the defense, energy, oil and other industries.

Jan Svoboda, Director of the Applications Department, lists the advantages of this model. "The bigger diameter of the spindle provides higher rigidity and allows powerful chip removal. The combination of ram and spindle can reach 406 mm (15.98") beyond the center of the table so even smaller parts placed in the center of the table can be effectively machined. The possibility to use the machine for different sizes of workpieces is requested by our customers all over the world. A machine with ram travel is ideal for complex workpieces where it is requested to machine the inside of the part, or to machine at an angle with automatic or manual heads. Fermat is able to offer machining technology to solve complex part and application issues."

The modular concept of WFT 15 R allows operational variability in configurations, built according to the clients' requirements. The column moves along the Z-axis, from 1,500 to 3,000 mm (59.05" - 118.11"), perpendicular to the table that travels on the X-axis, from 2,000 to 5,000 mm (78.74" - 196.85"). The powerful headstock moves vertically along the Y-axis, from 2,000 to 3,500 mm (78.74" - 137.79"). Precision linear scales are installed on X, Y, Z and V axes to provide accuracy and repeatability of movement.

Using different options and accessories such as a through the spindle coolant system, manual and automatic milling or facing heads, pallet shuttle systems, probe systems and other additions, exponential opportunities for machining the most complicated workpieces can be realized.

The WFT 15 R can be equipped with an automatic tool changer with 20 to 60 tool capacity. Tool change is possible to a spindle with a 250 mm spindle support. If needed, the machine can be equipped with a vertical tool change feature in addition to the standard horizontal motion to accommodate automatic heads as well. However, it is also possible to use a 105 station robotic tool changer as a modern multifunctional accessory instead of using a traditional ATC.

The standard WFT 15 R model is equipped with a rotary table on a cross roller taper bearing produced by a certified European manufacturer. The table is equipped with two servomotors, two planetary gearboxes and two pinions in a master-slave relationship for the most accurate positioning, zero backlash, no slip stick and full servo B-axis machining as a standard feature.
