Taps with Carbide Strips

Featuring a flexible shank and hard cutting edges, the KOMET JEL GG HML is designed for GJV and GG cast materials.

Until now, KOMET only supplied HSS taps with carbide strips as special tools for demanding customer requirements. They are now available with the designation KOMET JEL GG HML ex stock and in the sizes M6 to M12 as standard in the catalog.

"The taps with carbide strips combine the benefits of a flexible HSS shank with the advantages of a hard cutting edge," said a company spokesperson. "They can thus compensate for slight alignment faults and, at the same time, achieve long tool life. The KOMET JEL GG HML taps are achieving particularly good results in machining grey cast iron (GG) and vermicular cast iron (GJV). When used in practice on machining centers and on transfer lines, a considerable tool life of up to 75,000 threads could be achieved with this highly abrasive material, which is used for the production of diesel engines, among others. This ultimately results in less machine downtime."
