Piezo Technology EDM Wire

Global EDM has announced its high performance Blaze Piezo technology EDM wire.
The piezoelectric effect is the ability of certain materials to generate a shape change in response to an applied electric potential. There are currently many successful applications of Piezo technology, such as depth sounders, ultrasonic cleaners, crystal controlled oscillators and servomotors. Since the Wire EDM process involves the sequential, high frequency imposition of an electric potential (voltage) at the gap between a metallic wire electrode and a conductive workpiece, it is theoretically possible to induce a shape change that causes local vibration at the surface of the wire by incorporating piezoelectric responsive material in the wire's surface microstructure. This vibration will enhance the flushing process, which is a key component to the efficiency of wire EDM.
Global EDM, in exclusive collaboration with an international group of scientists, has developed a proprietary process to produce a Piezo based EDM wire that further enhances the Gamma Phase Technology first introduced by Global affiliate Dr. Dan Tomalin in 2002.
Blaze high performance EDM wire is now available in a variety of diameters, tensile strengths and spool sizes.
