Stone Machinery Supports CNC Machining Program

(l-r) Dr. Dorothy Duran, President, Minnesota State College; Paul Sorensen, Instructor, Minnesota State College; Tom Drazkowski, President, Stone Machinery; Roger Holland, Instructor, Minnesota State College; and Orrin Brown, Stone Machinery. Tom Drazkowski presented a check for $6,000 to Minnesota State College Southeast Technical for its CNC Machinist program.

Stone Machinery in St. Paul, MN, has been a partner of Minnesota State College Southeast Technical in Winona for a number of years to support the growth and expansion of the school's CNC Machine Tool program. Stone Machinery recently contributed to the school's program a $6,000 grant for control / software upgrades, service and training. The grant will ensure the students and instructors have the best and latest software and equipment in the industry.

In addition to the recent grant, Stone Machinery has become an important ally to the success and growth of the Winona program over the years by supplying machines, service, training and financial support. Minnesota State College Southeast Technical purchased a new Hurco VM5i last year to add to the Hurco VM10 and the two Hurco TM6 lathes that students use in the CNC Machinist Program.

Another component of the manufacturing education partnership includes expertise from Stone's CNC machine professionals in various programs, including the CNC Machinist / Capstone Project at Minnesota State Southeast Technical. This is a project each graduating student must complete during the final year in the program. Tom Drazkowski, President of Stone Machinery, is a judge for the CNC Machinist / Capstone Project where the students must design, manufacture and write a Capstone Summary Report for their chosen project, which includes design prints, process, set-up and CNC programming details. The students build projects on CNC lathes, CNC mills, CNC routers, and/or other equipment. Judges choose a winner from all the graduates and prizes are awarded.
