Accurate, Affordable Machining Solutions at PMTS 2017

At PMTS 2017 taking place April 25-27 in Columbus, OH, Mazak will showcase several machining solutions engineered to enable shops to cost effectively achieve productivity gains. In booth 349, the company will feature its new QUICK TURN PRIMOS 100, QUICK TURN UNIVERSAL (QTU) 200MSY and VC 500A5X machine models, each with a different level of CNC control technology and able to process wide varieties of parts.

The Mazak QUICK TURN PRIMOS 100 turning center is a compact machine that requires just 55" x 49" of floor space. A 12 HP/5,000 RPM turning spindle and 6" chuck are part of an integral spindle/motor design that minimizes machining vibrations. The machine features a high-speed spindle that delivers quick acceleration/deceleration for increased efficiency and provides high levels of torque at low speeds for processing hard materials. The machine's upper drum-style turret holds eight tools and offers high-speed, non-lift turret indexing.

The QUICK TURN PRIMOS 100 on display will additionally feature a GL01 Gantry Robot part delivery system equipped with a 10-pallet work stocker and dual parallel 3-jaw grippers with capacity for parts up to 2.95" in diameter and 2.54" long. A compact design with rapid rates of 4,572 IPM B-axis and 3,556 IPM A-axis motion make the GL01 efficient in handling high-volume, small-part production.

Mazak's QTU 200MSY Multi-Tasking Machine is designed to provide efficiency, accuracy and value in high-volume small parts production. Suitable for the automotive, consumer electronics, contract manufacturing and medical industries, the QTU 200MSY employs a 20 HP 6,000 RPM main spindle and a 10 HP 6,000 RPM second spindle for complete DONE IN ONE performance. The machine's integral spindle/motor headstock is engineered to provide precision in high-speed turning applications. A variable-speed AC motor powers the headstock, so there is smooth acceleration and deceleration.

At the show, the QTU 200MSY will feature Mazak's latest MAZATROL SmoothC control technology with new and improved features that enhance cutting capabilities and make it easy for operators to generate programs for basic turning, milling, drilling and tapping operations.

"Visitors to the Mazak PMTS booth will also discover the benefits of affordable, full 5-axis machining with the company's VC-500A/5X Vertical Machining Center equipped with a trunnion-style rotary/tilt table that allows for the accurate, cost-effective processing of small complex parts," said a company spokesperson. The machine's table tilts +110°/-110° in the B-axis and rotates 360° in the C-axis and can accommodate workpiece weights up to 440 lbs.

The VC-500A/5X comes standard equipped with a high-performance CAT-40 12,000 RPM spindle designed to deliver enhanced metal removal capabilities in all common materials, including steel, aluminum and cast iron. A 30-tool capacity tool magazine helps reduce set-up time, allows for redundant tooling and provides more unmanned uninterrupted operations.

The machine features the MAZATROL SmoothX CNC that allows for easier programming in either EIA or MAZATROL conversational and enables overall faster part cycle times. The control has several advanced functions including High Gain Feed Forward Control, Fast Rotary Axis Speeds, Variable Acceleration Control and Intelligent Pocket Milling.
