Call for Entries: 2023 Student Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition

The ET Foundation and the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) have released the Call for Entries for the 2023 Student Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. The design competition, open to currently enrolled students in high school, college, university or trade/design school, is intended to enlighten students – and their instructors – about the many design advantages and application possibilities of aluminum extrusions. Entry in the competition is free and designs are due no later than March 27, 2023.

Scholarship awards totaling $15,500 are available to the winning student designs. The competition is sponsored by Almag Aluminum, Brampton, ON, Canada; MI Metals, Inc., Oldsmar, FL; and Pennex Aluminum Company LLC, Wellsville, PA. The awards include $5,000 for First Place, $4,000 for Second Place and $3,000 for Third Place, as well as $3,500 for the Sustainability Design Challenge for student entries that best address societal and/or environmental challenges or concerns.

Students around the world – but especially in North America – are being invited to submit designs that incorporate one or more extruded aluminum profiles in their product.

The aim of the Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition is to promote the understanding and use of extruded aluminum profiles, as well as highlight innovations and recognize excellence in aluminum extrusion design. Winning entries will be those that demonstrate the benefits of extruded aluminum — whether by inventing a new product or improving an existing one — by achieving the competition’s criteria and objectives of creativity, practicality, product/process improvement or advantage and market impact/potential.

More information about the competition, including the Call for Entries complete with official entry form, as well as helpful design resources like the AEC Aluminum Extrusion Manual, is available at the competition website, www.ETFdesign.org.
