Open House Event Featured Technological Insights

Wolfram Manufacturing Technologies' recent open house event took place in its newly expanded shop in Austin, TX. The event showcased its shop operations, leveraging the latest CNC manufacturing processes, advancements and technology.

The shop is branded as the Wolfram Manufacturing Technologies and Caron Engineering Production Technology Center, utilizing and featuring OnTakt, the production management software developed and sold by Wolfram Manufacturing Technologies, and TMAC, Tool Connect, DTect-IT, MiConnect and AutoComp from Caron Engineering. Wolfram Manufacturing Technologies is the exclusive Caron Engineering integrator for the Western U.S.

Over 250 attendees from all over the U.S. attended the event. Small group guided tours were conducted throughout the day, offering a firsthand look at Wolfram's state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. The shop floor features machines such as Tsugami TMA8, Tsugami S206, Okuma Multus, Okuma LB3000, FANUC RoboCut, FANUC RoboDrill, Omega TMM presetter, Haimer Shrink Fit, Haimer Tool Balancer and 3nine mist collectors among others.

During the event, Wolfram Manufacturing Technologies made over 1,000 parts and saw an average machine utilization rate of 84%, even without machine operators standing at the machines. This immersive experience allowed participants to witness the cutting-edge machinery and processes that are at the heart of Wolfram's operations.

One of the highlights of the Wolfram Open House was the speakers and their talks, starting with the keynote address by Nathan Byman, President of Wolfram Manufacturing Technologies. Titled "Automating to Survive in the Current Hiring Environment," Byman's presentation delved into the critical role of automation in overcoming the challenges posed by the current labor market. Contrary to the common perception that automation primarily involves robotics, Byman emphasized the importance of identifying process weaknesses and employing a variety of tools to address them. He argued that these tools yield substantial gains on their own and lay the groundwork for the seamless integration of robotics into manufacturing processes when the time is right.

Other speakers included Rob Caron from Caron Engineering, Anthony Tournaud from Tsugami America, Casey from Blum Novotest and Ryan Meleg from Omega TMM. The lobby was filled with exhibitors from Olympus Controls, Blum Novatest, Caron Engineering, 3Nine, Omega TMM, Hennig, Haimer, A.J. Rod, Schunk and Five and Fly.

For lunch, Wolfram Manufacturing Technologies treated everyone to homemade BBQ crafted by its very own pit master and employee, Dale Ekdahl, who served up tender brisket, pulled pork and sausage.

The Wolfram Open House was not just about presentations and tours; it was an opportunity for the community of manufacturing professionals to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights and explore potential collaborations. The event served as a platform for attendees to connect with peers, learn from experts and gain a deeper understanding of the latest trends and technologies shaping the manufacturing sector.
