Tsugami/Rem Sales, the exclusive North American importer of Precision Tsugami machine tools, has announced the introduction of the new Tsugami SS20M-5AX, a 20 mm 5-axis multifunction machine. "The Tsugami SS20M-5AX combines the versatility of a CNC automatic lathe with the functionality of a vertical machining center," said a company spokesperson. "It is capable of producing highly complex parts up to 20 mm in diameter in a single set-up with its vertical machining center-style tool spindle, 5-axis simultaneous control and ability to perform continuous cutting along the B-axis."
Equipped with a 24-tool automatic tool changer, the SS20M-5AX's vertical tool spindle performs multi-angle operations on main or sub spindle workpieces. According to the company, it offers single set-up technology for complex-shaped and contoured parts that traditionally require multiple, sequential machining processes and frequent handling. 5-axis simultaneous control (C1, Z1, B1, X1, Y1) is possible. Simultaneous operations and spindle speeds up to 10,000 RPM on the main spindle, 12,000 RPM on the sub-spindle and 30,000 RPM on the vertical machining center-style upper spindle facilitate short cycle times.
