Feed Milling Solution with Eight Cutting Edges

The new ISCAR NEOFEED HIGH FEED LINE introduces an economical and productive solution to ISCAR's growing high feed mill family. "The cutting geometry features a positive double-sided insert design providing free cutting action, elevated productivity and tool life increases of up to 2X that of other solutions in the market," said a company spokesperson.

The new NEOFEED cutters are available in diameter ranges from 2" to 4" in the following two shell-mill design configurations:

  • FFQ8 -12 fast feed cutter with 12° cutting edge angle for milling with a high feed per tooth at depths of cut of up to .059".
  • MFQ8 -12 moderate feed cutter with 22° cutting edge angle for milling with a moderately high feed per tooth at depths of cut up .118", providing a bridge between fast feed and the more common 45° face milling tools.

The new FFQ8 -12 and MFQ8 -12 utilize the same double-sided square inserts FFQ8 SZMU 120520 with eight cutting edges, offering users a productive and versatile feed milling solution.

The NEOFEED insert design features a positive tool rake angle, providing smooth cutting action and reduced cutting forces and power consumption to maximize metal removal rates. The cutter pocket design features a dovetail geometry that provides rigid insert clamping, improving the cutter's capability to withstand heavy load. These features permit the tools to run at elevated feedrates for high productivity and improved tool life with a high degree of predictability, the company reported.

The FFQ8/MFQ8 D -12 shell mill cutters are offered in a fine-pitch configuration, extending the range of application options for roughing specifically in the die and mold, aerospace and general engineering industries.

According to the company, FFQ8 SZMU 120520 inserts feature:

  • Large corner radius with reinforced cutting-edge for increased edge strength when milling near a wall
  • Two cutting geometries (T/HP) specifically designed for high-feed machining of most materials
  • Unique insert design that fits both FFQ8 and MFQ8 cutter designs
  • Availability in ISCAR's latest carbide grades with post-coating treatment technologies, offering elevated tool life and high productivity
  • Economical solution due to insert cost effectiveness per cutting edge

FFQ8 SZMU 120520T is available for steel, ferritic and martensitic stainless steel, cast iron and hardened steel (ISO P, K and H groups of application).

FFQ8 SZMU 120520HP is available for austenitic stainless steel and high temperature alloys (ISO M and S groups of application).

The FFQ8/MFQ8 D -12 cutters feature:

  • Fine-pitch design for higher feed capability and increased metal removal rates
  • Coolant holes directed to each cutting edge for precise coolant supply and improved productivity
  • Protective coating on the cutter body for improved chip flow and protection from corrosion and wear
  • Dovetail pocket design for increased insert retention, reduced pressure on the insert screw and the ability to withstand extremely high feed rates with a high degree of predictability
  • Versatility between fast feed and moderate feed systems by utilizing the same insert design, offering flexibility depending on machine capability and limitations.
