Cheto Corporation Debuts in North America

Soon after its North American debut, Cheto Corp. S.A. (Portugal) has sold numerous Fagor equipped large scale CNC machines.

The first machine, the Cheto IXN2000, was sold to Midwest Mold Services. Another machine of the same model was sold to another mold shop in Windsor, Ontario. A mold injection shop, located in Grand Rapids, bought numerous models of the IX3000 (which is twice the size of the IXN2000).

To find out more about the first Cheto machine sold in North America, Fagor Automation recently visited an open house hosted by Performance Machinery LLC in Roseville, MI.

John Hill, of Midwest Mold Services, found himself in a capacity overflow from sub suppliers. Since Midwest Mold's debut in 1994, they had been outsourcing boring mill and gun drill work. But as of 2016, the use of sub suppliers began negatively impacting delivery dates due to limited capacity in the supply chain. Hill then began researching various brands of gundrill machines. While he was searching, Hill contacted Dan Meehan, President of Performance Machinery LLC, a CNC machine tool distributer.

It turned out that Meehan was in negotiations with Cheto Corp. to be its U.S. representative. Hill, Meehan and Cheto's CEO Carlos Teixeira met together to view the Cheto IXN2000.

"At first I was hesitant about being the first moldmaker in North America to have a Cheto machine. However, after looking at the machine and totally grasping its capabilities and the impact that machine could have on our process of mold building, we took the chance," said Hill.

The Cheto IXN2000 is a 7-axis machine equipped with the Fagor 8065 CNC. The automatic rotary table measures 1,600 mm by 1,300 mm and the spindle speed is 4,500 RPM. According to Cheto, the all-in-one concept enables moldmakers to perform multiple operations with one set-up, including deep-hole drilling, radial drilling, milling, tapping and boring.

Meehan said, "We see Cheto as a game changer for us in our business. Based on what we saw in Portugal-with their philosophy of multitasking, using water-based soluble fluids-the technology they have is truly unique in the gun drilling industry."

This was also the first CNC machine Midwest Mold purchased with a Fagor CNC control. "The experience that I have now, with Cheto and Fagor, I would recommend to anyone. The training and support that we got from Fagor and Cheto, and the results that we are still getting, has sold me."
