Greene Tweed's Brandy King Earns 2020 STEP Ahead Award

Brandy King

Greene Tweed, a manufacturer of high-performance elastomers, thermoplastics, composites and engineered components, has announced that Process Engineer Brandy King received a 2020 STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Ahead Award from the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).

The STEP Ahead Awards are dedicated to fostering a 21st century manufacturing workforce that gives women recognition and support through a national gala and two-day professional development program. NAM launched the STEP Women's Initiative to support women in science, technology, engineering and production careers and inspire more to join.

"Brandy is a leader at Greene Tweed whose work is instrumental, not only to the sustained success of the company, but in furthering its vision," said a company spokesperson. "Recently, she took the lead on two material developments in products designed for the aerospace and semiconductor industries. Her innovative thinking resulted in the expansion of Greene Tweed's mixing capabilities, and in turn, led to further materials development. She is currently working on introducing elastomer molding technology that will improve Greene Tweed's ability to target high-volume molding."

"Additionally, as the rotation engineering site coordinator at Greene Tweed, Brandy works with myriad team members-from new hires to managers-to assist in the onboarding process and enhance the development of projects," continued the spokesperson. "When two new female hires started at the company, Brandy went above and beyond her required duties, coaching the women and offering professional development opportunities on top of technical training."

King also supports Super Science Saturday-an annual event at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) that brings children and adults together to explore science-where she introduces young girls to STEM career opportunities, along with sharing her own journey in pursuing a STEM career.

"It is an exciting time in manufacturing and at Greene Tweed," said King. "I am constantly challenged to leverage new technologies while also learning about the intricacies of processing complex elastomeric materials. My skill set is ever-growing, I am maturing in my career and outlook, and I am helping drive Greene Tweed's Industry 4.0 initiative forward."
