Remanufactured Hardinge Tool Room Lathes

For the last 90 years, Iverson & Company (Ternstrom division) has been dedicated to providing remanufactured Hardinge tool room lathes for the ultra-precision machining segment. While part costs have risen dramatically, I do not believe that the manufacturing community in the USA is ready yet for the disappearance of the beloved Hardinge HLV-H Toolmaker's (Dream) Lathe. This beauty has not been offered new to the industry for well over 12-15 years.

One of the mainstays of Iverson & Company's Hardinge offering is new spindle and bearings. Anyone who has ever run a precision lathe knows that a great spindle is the heart and soul of precision turning. Hardinge spindles are second to none in the industry. This is what sets up our customers for another three to four decades of precision turning. Each spindle is certified between .000005" to .000010" TIR. Because we remanufacture for inventory, we can inform a customer exactly what their machine measured at the factory. We keep the certification sheet with the machine folder. The alternative method of installing new spindle bearings and grinding the spindle taper does not allow for the TIR and longevity that our customers expect.

We use a large number of new parts in the remanufacturing process. Over the decades, I learned that not all scraping is alike. Many times I have seen gibs that are scraped on both ends, but not the entire length. We learned from the beginning to do things the right way. Each Iverson machine gib is scraped over its entire length. This means that as you adjust the gib for wear, the machine will still be accurate for decades to come. The other method of scraping does not offer this. And yes scraping the entire gib is more expensive-significantly more.

Although cosmetics are not nearly important as the mechanical facets mentioned above, we strip the entire machine, castings and sheet metal and then reprime and repaint the machine in its entirety with Polane. Customers fall in love with our remanufactured HLV-H all over again, just like it was their first machine when they started in the trade 40+ years ago. That is a memory that any precision machinist will never forget. It is that satisfaction and emotional connection that keeps our customers coming back. At Iverson we are not only selling a product, but also an experience and a cherished memory.
