Automotive Technology Days Scheduled for Aug. 12-13

Makino will host its two-day event Automotive Technology Days on Aug. 12-13 at the company's new production machining technology center in Auburn Hills, MI. "Located just down the street from Makino's Die and Mold Tech Center, this new facility provides enhanced local engineering support for the automotive industry in Michigan," said a company spokesperson. "Event attendees can expect to walk away with technology and engineering solutions such as automation, engineering services, real-time machine performance monitoring and solutions for rapid return on investment (ROI) to compete and succeed in the global market."

"As the North American automotive market continues to thrive, manufacturers must remain steadfast in their commitment to meeting OEMs' part demands through ongoing investments in technology," said Mark Rentschler, Marketing Director at Makino. "Attendees of our Automotive Technology Days will learn about the latest machining processes and high-performance machine technologies necessary to seize market opportunities and improve their bottom line. The event provides access to Makino's experienced engineers, including opportunities for valuable one-on-one consultations that cover everything from part processing methods to complex automation engineering. It is an opportunity to discover real, actionable solutions that can be deployed immediately."

The event will offer cutting demonstrations, technical presentations and a car show, made up of attendees' own classic cars. Featured guest speaker for the event will be Michael Robinet, Managing Director at IHS Automotive. On Wednesday, Aug. 12, Robinet plans to discuss readying for the next stage of North American light vehicle production.

The following machine demonstrations are planned for the event:

• Die cast aluminum part machining: will highlight new machine technologies Makino has developed specifically for non-ferrous die cast part machining

• Cast iron milling: will illustrate Makino's HMC rigidity with large boring and spotfacing of a ferrous part high in the Y-axis and also its torque through large ridged tapping, high-speed finishing with a large depth of cut and large engagement

• Aluminum block machining: will emphasize the a61nx horizontal machine's speed, quick direct drive B-axis and accelerating 14K spindle

• Cast iron fluid end machining: will feature a Durabar billet demonstration, showcasing the machining of large diameter 78 mm holes from solid, long length-to-diameter deep hole drilling and rigid tapping operations

• Cast iron fluid head machining: the PS65 vertical machining center will produce large diameter 66 mm holes from solid, trichoidal milling with 45 mm axial engagement and rigid tapping operations.

The Automotive Technology Days registration and admission is free. Registration is required and can be completed by calling Laura Buehner at 513-573-4584 or by going online to www.makino.com/auto.

Makino's Auburn Hills Technology Center is located at 2661 Superior Court, Auburn Hills, MI, 48326. The building is at Superior and Lapeer roads (M-24), one mile from I-75 and M-24, off E. Walton Boulevard. It is 31 miles from the Greater Detroit Airport.
