Webinar Explores MTConnect's Practical Applications and Uses

Manufacturers looking for ways to better calculate overall equipment efficiency, monitor machine tools from one system and reduce production losses will benefit from Mazak's upcoming webinar titled "MTConnect: Practical Applications and Uses" on Tuesday, June 17 at 2 PM ET.

Neil Desrosiers, Mazak Applications Engineer/Developer, will host the free 30-minute webinar that will explore how MTConnect, an open-source, royalty-free manufacturing protocol, easily connects devices and systems from different suppliers to capture and share information in a common format.

Not only will webinar participants learn the basics of MTConnect and how it exists to set the standard communication method for retrieving data from manufacturing equipment, but also how Mazak actively supports MTConnect as a way to provide complete manufacturing solutions. The company now builds MTConnect-compliant machines as well as offers moderately priced adapters for existing equipment in the field.

"Currently, MTConnect allows manufacturers to establish, at a reasonable investment, a means to gather valuable information on the machines in their factory operations, such as monitoring energy consumption, and use the data to improve equipment utilization and boost productivity," said a company spokesperson.

In fact, Mazak is an example of a company that has implemented the protocol and seen its many productivity benefits. In 2013, the company began converting its Kentucky manufacturing plant over to MTConnect to monitor its overall equipment efficiency.

Mazak also has plans to use MTConnect for several custom applications unique to its manufacturing operations. These applications include monitoring machine tool spindle sensors for valuable maintenance data, as well as tracking part cycle times to benefit the company's scheduling department.

Registration for the "MTConnect: Practical Applications and Uses" webinar is now open at mazakusa.com/webinars. Once registered, all it takes to participate is a computer, an internet connection and a web browser.
