Expanded Base Plate and Front Mount Chuck Kit Line

"When one thinks of lathe chucks, it is natural to think first of horizontal turning applications," said a Global Tooling Solutions spokesperson. "However, more and more, with the increase in 4th axis machining, lathe chucks are being used in milling applications with installations on rotary tables, indexers and trunnions. In some instances, front mount chucks can be mounted directly to slotted platters, but in most instances the chuck must be used in conjunction with a baseplate to allow the proper install."

Gator has expanded its line of universal base plates designed for Gator plain back and adjustable front mount chucks. Both base plates and front mount chucks are designed to be used on a wide selection of indexers, rotary tables and trunnions that have either a 3/6 or 4/8 slot configuration.

Base plates are offered for:

  • 3- and 6-jaw adjustable scroll chucks
  • 3- and 4-jaw precision and universal scroll chucks
  • 3-jaw large through-hole scroll chucks
  • 5c collet chucks
  • 3-jaw pneumatic chucks

Front mount chuck and base plate kits are offered for chuck diameters 5" through 20". Larger diameters (up to 60") and custom executions are available as a special order.

Gator base plates are available in three configurations:

  • Baseplates with built-in centering ring for Haas specific applications
  • Baseplates with inserted centering ring (special order)
  • Baseplates without centering ring.

All baseplates are made of steel and are heat treated and ground within tight tolerances. Simple, quick and accurate installation allows Gator baseplates and chucks to be used in a wide variety of indexing applications on VTLs, milling and drilling machines, on lathes and grinders and on welding fixtures. They are also suited for many quality control applications. Adjustable chucks and related baseplates allow the end user to center round workpieces with high accuracy against the table/indexer center.
