Deep Hole Drilling in Steel

The Hoffmann Group offers the GARANT Master Steel DEEP, a tool designed for deep hole drilling with a high level of process reliability with high cutting parameters. "Optimized for machining steel, the deep hole drill shows its strengths without a co-pilot hole even in stainless steel and cast iron. It thereby achieves a tool life up to three times that of the current competitors. The GARANT Master Steel DEEP is thus particularly suitable for machining high-quality components, which requires maximum process reliability," said a company spokesperson. The deep hole drill can be ordered in the eShop at www.hoffmann-group.com and via the Hoffmann Group 2020/2021 catalog.

"Internal tests show the GARANT Master Steel DEEP achieved impressive results in comparison to its predecessor and products from competitors: up to 30% higher metal removal rate, up to 70% higher process reliability and three times longer tool life," said the spokesperson. "Straight main cutting edges reduce the cutting forces, improved point geometry ensures optimum chip breaking and a special design for cooling and drill guidance offers unique advantages. The through-cooling is only helical in the head area in order to enable an unequal helical pitch of the chip flutes on the remaining drill body with an adaptive helix angle from 15° to 30°. This leads to accelerated evacuation of the chips out of the hole and to greater process reliability at higher cutting speeds. Patented drill guidance consisting of a guide land and guide rings reduces vibration and allows top drill hole quality. Due to the guide rings, coolant flows around the drill tip in a targeted manner and prevents overheating of the machining zone. In addition, the chip flow is optimized by a head coating and polished chip flutes."

The GARANT Master Steel DEEP also offers enhancements to tool life and tool wear. Its increased level of stability and durability is due to a strong core made from sintered carbide substrate (patented process) as well as a wear-resistant and heat-resistant TiAlN-based multi-layer coating. Due to the head coating, the tool can be reground up to four times to the original quality.
