External Grinding Machine

Danobat's new generation of CG external and internal grinding machines is engineered to meet complex and demanding grinding challenges for workpieces up to 1,800 mm in length.

This CG is capable of grinding at 80 m/s, achieving higher removal rates and productivity, better surface quality, lower wheel wear and higher tool life.

To help ensure shorter changeover times, two different types of integrated loading systems are offered with the CG machine. Both are modular and compact. Available automation solutions include gantry loaders and integrated robots. Danobat integrates third party automation systems, providing automation solutions with workpiece infeed or stack cell systems tailored to the customer's specific requirements.

"The most demanding industries can benefit from customized machine configurations. Application examples include CV joints, gearbox shaft, steering pinion, differential case, rear axle, tools and toolholders, screw compressors, hydraulic components, wind power industry, electric motor spindle/shafts, components for textile machinery and small and medium gears, among others," said a company spokesperson.

The CG includes Optidress, a built-in dressing solution. This reduces non-productive time and collision risk due to offset calculation algorithms. Wheel wear is reduced due to automatic calculation of dressing passes. Dressing time is also decreased through optimized calculations of feeds and speeds adapted to wheel shape. The result is up to 68% saving in non-productive time, according to the company.

The grinding machine has a natural granite bed that offers thermal stability due to the natural thermal expansion coefficient of granite. Consistency of dimensional part accuracy is enhanced by a permanent coolant bed flushing system.

The machine includes linear motors for greater precision and fewer components, thus reducing maintenance. The optimal positioning of the optical rules offers increased repeatability and makes the acceleration of the machine 3x faster than the previous one.

The machine has an infinitely programmable CNC swiveling B-axis with large swiveling range for angular positioning of the tools. It offers direct torque motor drive with no backlash. Due to Danobat's B-axis design with integrated high resolution rotary encoder, repeatability of +/-0.005 arc sec (+/-1 µm) can be achieved by measuring at a radius of 650 mm from the center of the B-axis. In addition, positioning accuracy of ± 1.5 arc sec is achieved. The result is enhanced rigidity, positioning accuracy, consistency and process flexibility.

Danobat uses its own in-house developments to design the critical elements of the machines, including a high frequency spindle for external, internal and face grinding, work head and tailstock, as well as B-axis.

"These products are designed, developed, manufactured and installed by highly qualified specialist personnel in state-of-the-art facilities," said the spokesperson. "Well documented processes and sign-off protocols allow for exact traceability and assure component interchangeability if ever needed. Due to this, Danobat maintains a large stock of OEM parts. These are delivered quickly and directly without the intervention of secondary parties. This contributes to the high annual machine availability."

The CG has a compact design. Both the electrical cabinet and the wheel change cantilever are attached to the machine, which facilitates the shipping and handling of the machine itself and making it possible to manipulate by forklift. A cantilever allows for quick and ergonomic grinding wheel changes.

The machine incorporates electrical and pneumatic systems, thus eliminating the hydraulic system previously used. As a result, the machine is more eco-friendly and requires less maintenance.

The CG comes with Danobat DoGrind+ software designed to reduce tasks by 40%. It enables faster programming since it displays only the necessary parameters, and it offers quick problem-solving due to the integration of a troubleshooting application.

Danobat has integrated all the advances of communication technology into its Digital Focus, an environment of digital solutions designed to improve user experience and make it easier to access, control and understand the complex processes of machines. This development allows the operator to view error solutions 30% faster and also use same interface for different applications, increasing ease of learning by 50%.
