High-Speed Gantry Loader



Murata Machinery USA, Inc. has introduced the newly engineered high-speed gantry loader featured on its MW120GEX machine.

This high-speed gantry loader uses carbon composite material to reduce the weight of the gantry by 35% over previous models. "This feature maintains the strength and rigidity that all of our Murata gantries are known for," said a company spokesperson. "Instead of one rail for the X-axis, we now utilize two rails to support the carrier. The benefit is 50% increase in gantry traverse speed. Compared to our standard MW120G, we are reducing the minimum cycle time by five seconds, utilizing the new high-speed gantry."

"This gantry is undoubtedly the fastest in its class for part diameters up to 120 mm. We introduced this machine at IMTS 2016 and customers could not believe the speed," explained Steve Landrum, North American Sales Manager of Murata Machinery USA's Turning business unit.

Because of the reduced weight of the overall gantry, Murata Machinery was able to reduce the size of the servo motors in X, Y and Z. "All of our gantry loaders are 3-axis, which allows for a lot of flexibility with our in-feed and out-feed devices. So reducing even more weight through smaller servo motors was an added benefit to the speed of the gantry," said Landrum. "This technology is the next step in giving our customers even more of a competitive advantage."
