HMC for Gear Cutting

Sharp Industries, Inc. offers its horizontal milling machine, Model UH3, with a universal table that may be used for gear cutting. The machine comes standard with arbor and arbor support. Several cutters may be ganged together on the arbor to mill a complex shape of slots and planes. Special cutters can also cut groves, bevels, radii and more.

"Using cutters, that have good support from the arbor and have a larger cross-sectional area than an end mill, the horizontal mill can take quite heavy cuts, enabling rapid material removal rates," said a company spokesperson.

Model UH3 has a 51" x 11.8" table and travels of 37.3" x 14.8". The 7.5 HP motor drives a NST50 spindle that runs 35 - 1,382 RPM. The table swivels 90°. A motorized gear box drives the table, saddle and knee for feed and rapid traverse. For maximum rigidity, the table is supported on two hardened and ground box ways. The automatic lubrication system provides way lubrication. Machine weight is 5,170 lbs.
