Power Chuck with Constant Clamping Force

The new DURO-A power chuck is designed to provide reliable processes for greater gripping force and better access for milling tools

"Machine tool OEMs have completely transformed turning centers over the last several years by offering enhanced speed, power and sophistication," said a RÖHM spokesperson. "When paired with outdated periphery equipment, these new machines lose out on many of the performance advantages that they were developed to create. To master the challenges of a modern production environment, and to meet the technological requirements of new CNC machines, RÖHM developed the new DURO-A power chuck. Equipped with the most advanced chucking technology in 30 years, the DURO-A comes with numerous benefits for the user and has an excellent price to performance ratio."

"The DURO-A power chuck has a constant clamping force for more than 500,000 cycles, up to 30% higher maximum clamping force and is 10% lighter than comparable power chucks," continued the spokesperson. "The constant clamping force ensures reliable clamping of the components and allows heavier workpieces to be machined. The chuck weight, which has been reduced by up to 10%, offloads the machine spindles and ensures that the maximum speed as well as braking of the complete system are achieved faster, which contributes to improved efficiency of the machine tool."

The compact design of the DURO-A power chuck, with an improved interference contour as well as reduced overall height, provides better accessibility of the driven tools. According to the company, the wedge-hook system with ring pistons from RÖHM achieves low centrifugal force losses at high rotational speeds.

The through-hole has been expanded by up to 30%. The chuck offers up to 35% higher maximum speed for a broader spectrum of workpieces and a more diverse assortment of applications. "The precise manufacturing of the product as well as the stable construction result in high concentricity of 0.01 mm (for bored top jaws) for excellent machining quality, low imbalance and fast rotational speeds," said the spokesperson.
