Rebuilder of Blanchard Grinders Introduces CNC Conversion Models

F. P. Miller Co. has introduced a fully rebuilt and retrofitted FANUC controlled CNC model Blanchard Grinder for the "A" style servo feed grinders. This model can also be equipped with a Fagor Model 8055iFL CNC control. This package allows customers who have servo Blanchards with old, outdated and non-serviceable controls the option of updating to state of the art CNC controls without purchasing a new machine.

A Blanchard 22AK-42 (42" diameter magnetic chuck) was remanufactured and installed with a FANUC OiT CNC Control and mated with a Mitsubishi glass scale to position the grinding head with accuracy and repeatability.

"The 22AK-42 Blanchard retrofit, utilizing user friendly set-up and auto cycle functions, is a perfect fit for long and short production runs," said a company spokesperson. "This auto cycle allows the operator to load up the machine and walk away to perform other operations in a work cell. These units are equipped with a portable MPG unit and single push button for entering the grind start point. The removal rates and feed rates are set using FANUC user macros. This particular model is also equipped with an automatic sludge conveyor, eliminating most of the labor required in the removal of grinding swarf from the base of the machine."

During a rebuild, machines are brought in and completely disassembled. Every part is cleaned and inspected for wear and either reused, replaced or rebuilt. All bearings and seals are replaced, including Timken Precision Class III bearings in the spindle. Instillations include redesigned sheet metal water guards, new magnetic chuck controls, new electrical systems with upgraded features such as soft starts, new automatic lubrication systems and now an optional table drive that incorporates a variable frequency motor and control. All components are sanded to original metal, painted individually and assembled. Main sub-assemblies are placed on test stands and run prior to assembly. Upon completion, machines are run off and test grinding occurs. In most cases the Blanchard rebuilds will hold less than .0005" across the magnetic chuck with some of the more specific requirements holding .00015 flat and parallel.

All remanufactured Blanchard Grinders from F. P. Miller Co. come with a one year warranty, start-up and training assistance.
