Sinker EDM Minimizes Environmental Footprint

"The FORM 20 from GF AgieCharmilles is designed for manufacturers looking to maximize their die-sinking EDM operations while minimizing their environmental footprint. The highly efficient machine is able to provide exceptional performance using less power by employing what the company considers to be one of the most advanced sinker EDM generators currently available," said a company spokesperson.

According to Gisbert Ledvon, Director of Business Development for GF AgieCharmilles in North America, the FORM 20, which utilizes the company's proprietary Intelligent Power Generator, has the lowest energy consumption of all the EDM machines on the market today, requiring just 3.7 kW/h at full power.

"The FORM 20's Intelligent Power Generator features built-in quality-boosting, cost-saving intelligence. With every machine pulse, the 70-amp generator continuously optimizes the EDM process and reduces electrode wear as well as provides uniform surface finishes. The machine reliably generates surface finishes of Ra 0.1 micron and radii down to 0.0007"," said Ledvon.

"We are taking several steps to 'green' our machines," said Ledvon. "This not only involves building highly efficient, cost-effective power generators, but also working with industry partners to provide solutions that monitor and control energy consumption, reduce secondary operations and cycle times as well as limit environmental impact through material-saving cutting strategies."

In addition to its power generator, the FORM 20 is one of the first machines to sport the company's recently developed AC Form HMI (human machine interface). This new CNC provides a user friendly and flexible control. Form 20 has full spark generator technology.

Lastly, the FORM 20 is a compact standard die-sinking EDM, with ample axis travels of 13.78" x 9.84" x 9.84". Within its compact footprint, the machine includes a four-position integrated linear tool changer. It also incorporates a rigid and compact mechanical structure for stable operation.
