New Software Platform for 3D and 2D Formats

InspectionXpert Corporation has released its new InspectionXpert OnDemand for CAD, a new quality planning and documentation software platform that supports both 3D model-based and 2D print-based formats. "InspectionXpert OnDemand for CAD means end users who need to create inspection packages can now save money and time using the same workflow regardless of input file format," said a company spokesperson.

The following are key highlights of InspectionXpert OnDemand for CAD, according to the company:

  • Does not require a CAD license to view, balloon, and extract inspection data for reporting
  • Supports both 3D model-based definition (MBD) and traditional 2D print-based inspection planning
  • Creates 3D and 2D PDFs from CAD models
  • Supports new DOD MBD standards
  • Standardizes MBD inspection plans in a supply chain
  • Uses InspectionXpert OnDemand technology for secure, instant access from any computer at any time.

"InspectionXpert OnDemand is the simplest and fastest way to generate quality inspection forms and ballooned inspection drawings or MBD inspection models," said CEO Jeff Cope. "We have purpose-built InspectionXpert OnDemand for CAD from the ground up to be used on any computer, at any time, without manual installation and eliminating the cost of expensive CAD software licenses. This is a tool all manufacturers can integrate easily into their quality inspection process."

According to the company, manufacturers, machine shops, and many OEMs use a variety of CAD programs to generate or view 2D prints and 3D models for manufacturing. "Creating quality inspection documents, such as first articles or in-process inspection reports, is still primarily a manual, error-prone and time-consuming process and often involves purchasing costly CAD licenses or generating completely new CAD documents for inspection," said the spokesperson. "Now quality departments can view native CAD files including CATIA V5 2D or 3D, CATIA V6 and .dwg files using InspectionXpert without having to purchase a CATIA or other CAD license. Support for additional CAD formats including NX, Creo/ProEngineer, Solid Edge, Inventor, Step, JT and DXF will be offered in the coming months."

"Suppliers who are looking to take advantage of the trend toward MBD will benefit from a scalable, CAD-neutral software solution," said VP of Operations Chip Depew. "InspectionXpert OnDemand for CAD provides a solution that improves throughput in the quality department while generating professional, accurate quality documentation to their customers in a fraction of the time."
