High-Precision Laser Marking Workstations

"Since the marking of most medical devices with a Unique Device Identifier (UDI) is mandated by the FDA, manufacturers face multiple challenges," said a company spokesperson. "Besides the enhancing complexity of the marking content and the increasing number of varying parts which have to be marked, manufacturers also need flexible and process reliable solutions."

At MD&M East, FOBA showcased its high-precision laser marking workstations FOBA M1000 and FOBA M2000 with integrated Intelligent Mark Positioning (IMP) vision. "IMP is an integrated high-speed camera system which automatically detects workpieces and their positioning and aligns the marking/engraving accordingly," said the spokesperson. "This is especially valuable for volume production since a high-precision and repeatable marking is provided. With IMP, manufacturers achieve markings in zero-defect quality which is a decisive success factor in rapidly developing markets such as the medical industry."

FOBA's vision solutions are part of the closed-loop laser marking process Holistic Enhanced Laser Process (HELP) which is designed to cover pre- and post-mark verification. HELP is a three-stage process including verification stages prior to marking (part validation, pre-mark verification, mark alignment) and directly after marking (mark verification, optical character verification (OCV) and 2D code validation including UDI-Unique Device Identifier). FOBA demonstrated its HELP process at MD&M East.
