High-Speed Laser Trackers for Portability, Simplified Operation

Hexagon Metrology has released its new all-in-one Leica Absolute Tracker AT960. "This portable coordinate measuring machine (PCMM), an innovation in laser tracking technology, meets industry demand with an ultracompact footprint for maximum mobility on the factory floor," said a company spokespserson. "The Leica AT960 combines high-end capabilities such as PowerLock, high-speed dynamics and six degrees of freedom (6DoF) into the most advanced Leica laser tracker to date. The entire system, including controller and cables, fits into a standard check luggage-sized portable case."

The AT960 - designed with full wireless capability, IP54 certification and optional hot-swappable batteries - is suitable for inspection work in formidable industrial environments or remote locations. "With a 6DoF measuring volume of unparalleled size and accuracy, the Leica AT960 is utilized for metrology-assisted alignment and assembly, part inspection, fixture and jig building, part mating, reverse engineering, automation cells and other precision measurement applications found in industries such as aerospace, automotive, power generation, shipbuilding and more," said the spokesperson.

With a complete range of next-gen accessories to expand its capabilities, the AT960 is designed to measure instantly with the Leica T-Probe, Leica T-Scan, Leica T-Mac or reflector. The Leica T-Probe is a handheld wireless device used to probe hidden or hard to access points in a large volume up to 196'. The ultra high-speed Leica T-Scan 5 is a non-contact hand scanner built to acquire millions of accurate points a second on virtually any surface without special preparation. The Leica T-Mac (Tracker-Machine control sensor) is a 6DoF tracking device used for automated applications. The T-MAC and the T-Scan 5 can be mounted to an industrial robot and tracked by the AT960 to automate large scale inspection processes.

Hexagon also launched its Leica Absolute Tracker AT930 system. "With all the features and functionality of the AT960 without the 6DoF compatibility, the AT930 is a 3D measurement solution with dynamic capabilities and real-time operation," said the spokesperson. "Both laser trackers support Hexagon's PC-DMIS software, Spatial Analyzer and offer the ability to communicate with other software platforms in the marketplace.

"This family of Leica Absolute Trackers leverages the latest electronics and optical technologies to greatly enhance the user experience. Integrating the recent developments of PowerLock, Absolute Interferometry and optical miniaturization, these portable measurement products are based on time-proven features. The AT960 and AT930 replace the AT901 and T-Cam products, and they complement the basic Leica Absolute Tracker AT402."
