UNITED GRINDING Launches C.O.R.E.

UNITED GRINDING North America recently held Evolution to Revolution, a precision CNC grinding industry event filled with live machine demonstrations, technology innovations, breakout discussion sessions and keynote. Along with an 11-station display of part-production and automation solutions, the company also unveiled its Customer Oriented REvolution (C.O.R.E.) technology. C.O.R.E. technology adds next-generation productivity, adaptability and versatility to grinding applications.

The development of C.O.R.E. began with the effort to ensure increasing connectivity and create the basis for modern IIoT applications with intuitive operations. C.O.R.E opens up new possibilities to network, control and monitor the production process and optimize its processes. The technology updates the user experience for the smartphone generation.

The 24" full HD multitouch display is a feature of the next-generation machine tools equipped with the new C.O.R.E. technology. With touch-and-swipe navigation and a customizable user interface, customers can arrange important functions and operating displays as they would on a smartphone home screen.

The new access system uses a personalized RFID chip that automatically loads individual user profiles for enhanced security and easy operator login/logout. To reduce complexity and prevent errors, users only see information relevant to them.

The C.O.R.E. panel uses virtually no keys. A prominent rotary switch for feedrate override allows operators to regulate axes with a simple turn. Uniform use of the C.O.R.E. Panel across all UNITED GRINDING brands simplifies machine operation and training. Anyone who can operate one UNITED GRINDING machine can operate all of them.

Machines equipped with C.O.R.E. technology feature additional improvements. C.O.R.E. OS, a full operating system, is installed on a high-performance industrial PC, the C.O.R.E. IPC, which serves as an IIoT gateway and host of all software applications. C.O.R.E. OS is also compatible with all CNC controls used at UNITED GRINDING.

The new technology opens up opportunities for connectivity. All UNITED GRINDING Group machines with C.O.R.E. technology can be networked, along with third-party systems via implemented interfaces, such as umati. This provides direct access to UNITED GRINDING Digital Solutions' offerings on the machine-from remote service to the service monitor and production monitor. For example, customers can request support from the Group's Customer Care Team directly at the C.O.R.E. panel. A chat feature provides fast and easy support, and the integrated front camera enables video calls.

The C.O.R.E. technology presented at Evolution to Revolution is still under development. "It lays the foundation upon which we can build," said Christoph Plüss, CTO. "Development will continue on an ongoing basis. Due to the flexible, modular structure of the software architecture, we will continuously add new features and applications."
