Large-Format 5-Axis CNC Machining



Thermwood Corporation has released its large-scale 5-axis CNC machine-the Thermwood MAX5-engineered for industries that require size, strength and precision.

"Designed to tackle the most demanding 3D machining applications, the MAX5 is ideal for producing large to extremely large components for the aerospace, marine, automotive and construction industries," said a company spokesperson. "Utilizing advanced 3D modeling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), the MAX5 is structurally optimized to maintain peak performance even during complex, high-stress, multi-axis operations."

Key features of the Thermwood MAX5:

  • 9' vertical Z-axis clearance
  • Widths of either 10' or 15', with lengths available up to 60'
  • 17 HP liquid-cooled spindle
  • Standard six-position automatic tool changer, expandable up to 18 positions
  • High-tolerance automatic tool length and diameter measurement
  • Automatic lubrication system for reduced maintenance
  • Thermwood's advanced SuperControl with Smart Router Technology
  • Indexing speeds up to 2,100 IPM
  • Stress-relieved engineered steel gantry and vertical support columns
  • Precision-machined internal steel bracing for maximum rigidity
  • Optional floating aluminum worktable with drilled and tapped surface
