SST Hosts Southeastern Technology Days

Single Source Technologies (SST), a North American distributor of machinery brands such as Makino and Murata, will host a series of two Technology Days at its Greer, SC, facility this month to coincide with SOUTH-TEC. The first event will take place Tuesday, October 29, and the second on Wednesday, October 30. Attendance is open to SOUTH-TEC participants, as well as local area visitors, from 11 AM to 6:30 PM.

"The SST Technology Days present an opportunity for Southeastern machinists, engineers and business owners to learn about the latest developments in manufacturing technology through a series of in-depth technical discussions and live equipment demonstrations," said a company spokesperson. "Engineers from all of SST's major machine lines are scheduled to attend and meet with attendees for one-on-one consultations."

Technology Discussions and Demonstrations

A series of technology discussions are planned for each Technology Day event. Featured guest presenters will include lead engineers from several of SST's top equipment manufacturers. Planned discussion topics will include:

• Behind the Spreadsheet: Real Value Comparison of HMCs (Makino)

• High-Precision 5-Axis Machining (Hermle)

• Water-Based High-Speed EDM Hole and Diffuser Shape Machining of Blade and Vane • Cooling Holes for Aerospace and Power Generation (Makino)

• ID/OD Grinding Cases Studies (United Grinding Technologies/Studer)

• WinMax Control: Fastest from Print to Part (Hurco).

A variety of live machine demonstrations will be available from Haimer, Hermle, Hurco, Makino and Studer. Specific machine processes are set to include:

• Hermle C20U - High-precision 5-axis machining for die/mold, medical, aerospace and job shops

• Hurco TMX8 - WinMax control highlights, high-performance CNC slant bed turning and medium to large batch machining

• Makino a61nx - High-performance horizontal machining in aluminum and hard metal applications

• Makino EDBV3 - Water-based, high-speed sinker EDMing of blade and vane cooling holes and diffuser shapes

• Studer S33 - Outside and inside diameter grinding for small scale to high-production job shops

• Haimer - Comfort version balancing and shrink fit machines

Limo shuttle services will be available from 11 AM to 5:30 PM for all attendees traveling between SST and SOUTH-TEC (TD Convention Center). Lunch and dinner is offered from 11:30 AM to 1 AM and 4 to 6:30 PM.
