The drives feature direct torque control (DTC) technology built-in as standard, controlling motor flux and torque directly, rather than indirectly like AC vector drives and DC drives. Rather than having separate safety devices, such as relays and contactors, the ACS880 safety functions are built directly into the drives, offering the machine designer, safety engineer or plant manager numerous benefits such as pre-designed and certified safety functions.
Additionally, the ACS880 industrial drives are engineered to be robust. Using Accelerated Life Testing (ALT), ABB is able to test 10 years of a drive's life in four months to ensure the high reliability expected of each drive.
