EOS Founder Receives SME Additive Manufacturing Industry Achievement Award

Dr. Hans J. Langer, Founder and CEO of EOS GmbH, a leader in additive manufacturing (AM) solutions, received the SME Additive Manufacturing Industry Achievement Award at RAPID 2016 in Orlando, on May 19, 2016.

The award, established in 2008, is given to individuals who have made significant accomplishments that greatly impact the additive manufacturing industry. "RAPID is the authoritative industrial 3-D-manufacturing event of the year," said Glynn Fletcher, President of EOS North America. "This SME award is a reflection of both Hans Langer's innovative spirit and the growth and technological advancements his company has made over the past 27 years."

"Dr. Hans J. Langer founded EOS in 1989 and over the years developed the company into a market-leading pioneer in Additive Manufacturing," said a company spokesperson. Today he is the major shareholder of EOS, steering the company's strategic direction as Chief Executive Officer. Before founding EOS, he worked at the Max Planck Institute for plasma physics and received his Ph. D. with a thesis on laser technology from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.

EOS' latest advancements in AM include its compact M 100 metal system and its EOSTATE MeltPool Monitoring technology. The latter is an automated, intelligent, real-time process that provides part traceability as well as surveillance and analysis of the melt pool during the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) process, for every spot, every layer and every part, helping minimize risk and reduce quality assurance costs.

In other recent news, EOS has expanded its North American presence with the opening of its newest facility, located in Pflugerville, TX. The site features a new iLab, containing all working EOS systems, and an AM Ventures department - created to help startups bring their ideas to market using EOS' additive manufacturing technology. The aim is to enhance customer support throughout the region.
