Anti-Pullout Milling Chuck for HRSA

The BIG Daishowa Mega Perfect Grip available from BIG Kaiser is a high performance, heavy-duty anti-pullout milling chuck designed for use with heat resistant super alloys (HRSA). According to the company, it offers high accuracy and fully concentric clamping, runout less than .0004" at 4xD and accepts industry standard Weldon flat milling cutters with no special grinding of the milling cutter required.

"A unique lock mechanism using a key grip prevents the slip and pullout of the tool during heavy cutting," said a company spokesperson. "By simply using straight shank cutters with a Weldon flat, no special cutter is required. If a user's cutter does not have a flat, adding the user's own flat according to the general Weldon standard allows its use in the Mega Perfect Grip."

A key grip engages in the groove of the chuck body to help ensure no tool pullout. A spring maintains constant axial preload between the cutter and the internal groove. The key grip maintains contact with the stopper pin to prevent any slip under high torque.

The key grip grooves additionally provide channels for high volume coolant to the cutter. Effective end milling of HRSAs requires a high volume of coolant to the cutting edge to dissipate heat and aid in the removal of chips.
