Custom-Made Workholding Chucks Offered for Various Machines

Northfield Precision Instrument Corporation designs and manufactures precision workholding chucks. "Our specialty is developing custom solutions for difficult problems," said a company spokesperson. "One of our customers who manufactures delicate ceramic rings (shown in the foreground of the image) needed a way to carefully hold the rings on the O.D. so that the users could grind the I.D. The customer requested that no metal touch the parts.

"Northfield adapted its 6" diaphragm chuck with custom top tooling made from abrasion-resistant plastic (without a filler). These items can be quickly changed for new ones should a future need arise."

The company produces air chucks for lathes, boring machines, grinders and VMCs. Models include through-hole, high-speed and quick-change. Chucks are available in SAE or metric, in sizes from 3" (76 mm) to 18" (457 mm). The spokesperson stated that accuracies of 0.001" to 0.00001" (0.254 m) are guaranteed.
