The Mazak HQR-250MSY multitasking turning center is designed for faster cycle times and improved efficiencies. The machine features twin-spindle, twin-turret construction and MAZATROL SmoothG CNC.
"The twin-spindle, twin-turret configuration provides manufacturers with unequaled part-processing opportunities, including enhanced DONE IN ONE capabilities where it can complete machining from slug and/or bar material in a single set-up. Also, the balanced cutting of the upper and lower turrets promotes high part throughput," said a company spokesperson.
The HQR-250MSY's twin opposed turning spindles can operate together or separately, allowing a single part to be machined on all surfaces through a coordinated "hand-off" between spindles, or two different parts can be machined simultaneously on one machine.
The spindles are supported by large diameter bearings for high spindle rigidity. The main spindle features a 10" chuck, 3.58" spindle bore and 35 HP integral spindle motor that provides a maximum 4,000 RPM speed. The second spindle has an 8" chuck, 2.55" spindle bore and a 30 HP integral spindle motor that offers a 5,000 RPM top speed. Both have full CNC C-axis control for part positioning and contouring with indexing increments of 0.0001 degrees.
In cases where the part configuration permits, balanced machining can potentially remove up to 25 percent of the cycle time.
Both the upper and lower turrets accommodate 12 tools (16 tools optional) each and have 4" Y-axis travel capability for off-centerline operations. Rotary tool spindles on each turret deliver 6,000 RPM and 7.5 HP for milling and drilling multitasking functionality.
Additionally, the machine can further optimize part throughput via Mazak factory unloading that brings finished workpieces up to 3" diameter x 10" to the outside of the machining area without interrupting the machining cycle.
The machine comes equipped with MAZATROL SmoothG CNC that makes it easy to generate programs for processing high-production complex parts through off-centerline machining as well as angled drilling, milling and tapping.
Through the SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY platform, the MAZATROL SmoothG CNC offers several programming functions, including Smooth Corner Control that is designed to reduce vibrations and shorten machining cycle times through cutter path adjustments made when machining into corners and Intelligent Pocket Milling that engages a high-efficiency toolpath when milling out part cavities.
Ergonomics also play an important role in the functionality of the MAZATROL SmoothG CNC. A large 19" display presents all of the critical machine data within a single page view, while the tilt control panel allows for optimum positioning based on operator height. An intuitive multi-touch screen, which is similar to that of a smartphone, is engineered for fast and smooth programming operations. An SD card allows the CNC to store up to 32 GB of data.
For continuous unmanned operations, the HQR-250MSY integrates with an optional bar feeder and unloader or robot loader/unloader.
