Galaxy Manufacturing Adds TRUMPF Laser

The TRUMPF TruLaser 2030 has a 60" x 120" working range and a robust TruDisk solid-state laser all within the same cutting unit, which saves set-up time and increases throughput.

The TruPunch 2020 can punch up to 1/4" maximum sheet thickness and a workpiece up to 330 lbs.

The Ercolina CE70H3RLI angle roll machine with 3" sch. 40 pipe or 3-1/2" (.216 wall) tube capacity and hydraulic programmable down feed of center roll with LED display.

Galaxy's machining capabilities are supported by three CNC lathes and four CNC machining centers.

Eighteen years ago, Lee Batzel decided to step out of the corporate world and take his destiny into his own hands. Inspired by his earlier days welding and metalworking by his father's side, Batzel started Galaxy Manufacturing in the industrially rich area of his native northeastern Pennsylvania with his uncle. Today the company has grown to 40 employees, and is one of the top OEMs of pencil brushes for the world's oil and gas pipeline cleaning industry. Despite the existing success that comes from supplying to global conglomerates like Exxon and Saudi Aramco, Batzel is continuously reinvesting into Galaxy's contract manufacturing and custom fabricating division to serve the local and regional markets as well.

While Galaxy is known for its patented design of pipe cleaning or "pigging" brushes, their expertise does not stop there.

"Our knowledge in multiple facets of this industry is a major benefit because we can support a variety of businesses and customers that have different needs," said Batzel. "We will help anyone in the manufacturing sector that we can, and we have a lot to offer."

Galaxy Manufacturing's services include, but not limited to, machining, full-scale custom fabricating, defense subcontracting and production runs. In addition, Galaxy also offers collaborative research and development resources.

Customers depend on Galaxy Manufacturing for custom fabrication and machining, and the company, in turn, relies greatly on the support of its committed employees and well-equipped machine shop.

While the existing operation was already providing effective results, there was something missing.

"We wanted to invest in a high-quality laser that was flexible and had specific high-production capabilities," explained Batzel. "Our team is all about relentless focus on the customer and shorter lead times. Being the best resource that we can means high quality, cost-effective results in a timely fashion."

Together with Devin Martin, a Sales Representative for his machine tool distributor Mid Atlantic Machinery, Galaxy Manufacturing evaluated what would be the best solution for their current and future clients' needs. Being in a high-production, diverse environment means having a cutting solution that is equally accurate and versatile.

After careful consideration, they selected a TRUMPF Trulaser 2030 3 kw that would complement their existing capabilities and meet the demands of current and future customers.

Designed for a wide range of needs, the Trulaser 2030 has reduced Galaxy's cut time for their parts from 21 to 2 minutes.

"The TruLaser 2030 is what we needed to enhance our total operation," said Batzel. "We are looking forward to taking on new projects."

Galaxy's capabilities span from custom fabricating on their Trumpf TruPunch 2020, an Ercolina angle roll, waterjet and press brake to machining on numerous lathes and machining centers.
