High-Efficiency Drilling and Milling Solutions

OSG USA has released two new products to the A Brand Master Tooling Class. "OSG identified a need for better chip evacuation in the medical and electrical industries and thus created the A Brand ADO-Micro Drills. In the die/mold industry, OSG recognized the need for high heat resistance and toughness for high-hard steel milling, which resulted in the creation of the A Brand AE-H Series," said a company spokesperson.

ADO-Micro Drills

The ADO-Micro is a small diameter coolant-through carbide drill series that is designed to provide stable and high efficiency drilling in small diameter deep-hole applications.

"Poor chip evacuation is a common occurring complication in small diameter deep-hole drilling," said the spokesperson. "Micro sludges can be easily accumulated around the outer periphery of the cutting tool, which is a key cause of abrupt tool breakage. The ADO-Micro features a unique double margin geometry with an extended flute and shortened end margin to enhance chip evacuation capability. In addition to the outstanding chip ejection performance, the double margin configuration supports the straightness stability of the tool and reduces rifle marks on the inner surface of holes. Furthermore, the ADO-Micro features a pair of large oil holes and employs a hollow shank design to allow large coolant flow volume for trouble-free chip evacuation. The ADO-Micro is coated with OSG's original IchAda coating that provides excellent surface smoothness in conjunction with high abrasion resistance and heat resistance to enable small diameter tools to achieve long tool life. With the ADO-Micro's unique tool geometry and IchAda coating, non-step drilling is made possible even for deep-hole applications, enabling high processing efficiency."

The ADO-Micro is suitable for carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, ductile cast iron, aluminum alloy, titanium alloy and heat resistant alloy. The ADO-Micro is available from diameters of 0.7 mm up to 2 mm for drill lengths 2xD and 5xD, and diameters of 1 mm to 2 mm for drill lengths 12xD, 20xD and 30xD.

AE-H Carbide End Mill Series

The AE-H End Mill Series features three different types of carbide ball-end mills to accommodate a wide range of applications and milling methods in high-hardness steels. "This series includes the AE-BM-H, AE-BD-H and AE-LNBD-H and features OSG's original DUROREY coating optimized for steel milling. Testing resulted in approximately 60% reduction in wear vs. conventional coating given the same cutting length with our DUROREY coating," said the spokesperson.

The AE-BM-H is a 4-flute carbide ball-end mill designed for high-efficiency processing of high-hardness steels. It features a sharp spiral curve for reducing cutting resistance, allowing stable performance with extended tool life. The AE-BM-H's center 2-flute specification helps control tear when milling flat areas to improve surface accuracy. This geometry also contributes to better control of the clogging of chips with sufficient chip pocket room for evacuation. The AE-BM-H's superior ball R precision makes it suitable for both roughing and semi-roughing. The AE-BM-H is available from R1 to R6, with a total of eight items.

The AE-BD-H is a 2-flute carbide ball-end mill designed for high-precision finishing in high-hardness steels. It features a variable negative spiral gash for better chipping control. Moreover, the AE-BD-H's thick center core helps prevent deformation of the ball tip to improve chipping control. The AE-BD-H's superior ball R precision provides a stable radius accuracy across 180° degrees. The AE-BD-H is available from R0.5 to R6, with a total of 17 items.

The AE-LNBD-H is a 2-flute long neck carbide ball-end mill designed for high-precision finishing in high-hardness steels. Similar to the AE-BD-H, it also features a thick center core to help prevent deformation of the ball tip to improve chipping control. The AE-LNBD-H's ball R precision provides a stable radius accuracy across 180°. Its teardrop-shaped outer periphery strong back taper geometry enables milling by point, which prevents chattering and chipping, resulting in improvement of surface accuracy. The AE-LNBD-H is available from R0.05 to R3, with a total of 261 items to accommodate a wide range of applications.
