Tool Regrinding Program

Sumitomo has announced that for 2020, the lead time for its tool regrinding and recoating program has been cut in half, from four weeks down to 10 business days. "This means our customers do not need to float as many tools between the shop and reconditioning, and it allows them to schedule ahead for future needs," said a company spokesperson. "The improvement in tool reconditioning lead times was made possible by a change in our process."

All tool regrinding and recoating, including Absotech and Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC), is done in-house at Sumitomo's Wisconsin facility. "If it is a Sumitomo drill or replaceable tip drill, we regrind and coat it per customer specifications," said the spokesperson. "Sumitomo is able to recondition competitor tools as well. Customers can expect a cost savings of around 30% when compared to new tools, and up to 90% performance compared to new tools."

"Another advantage of the program is UPS flat rate shipping," added the spokesperson. "As long as the customer's box is 10 lbs. or less, it ships two-day air for a flat rate to Sumitomo and back to the customer's location."
