Turning/Milling Center for Medical Manufacturing

"Whatever raw material used in production or prototyping-steels, titanium, ceramic, CoCr, medical-grade PEEK, Nitinol or other exotic materials-Bumotec machining centers are engineered to provide high precision and repeatability," said a Starrag spokesperson.

"The s181 is one example of production efficiency," continued the spokesperson. "Equipped with two machining stations and an automatic tool changer for up to 90 tools, this model produces a cage made from medical grade PEEK in record time."

The s181's second integrated machining station is responsible for finishes on the sixth side of the part due to the retaking unit. The machine also integrates the deburring operation and checks for tool breakage in the changer and unloading part-all in concurrent operation time. "This medical component, produced in a single production cycle on the s181, sees a 35% gain in productivity in comparison to production on a machine equipped with a single station," said the spokesperson. Once machining is completed, the finished part is automatically unloaded into a container, in concurrent operation time. The part can then be directed to an unloading tray via a conveyor belt outside the machine.

The s181 turning/milling center is engineered to meet the majority of demands for applications in the medical, aerospace, jewelry and watchmaking industries, as well as micro-mechanics. With dimensions of under 3.5 sq. m, this compact model is equipped with a spindle capable of 40,000 RPM and can produce from bar diameters of up to 32 mm. "A further advantage is the machine's tool checking function. Performed in concurrent operation time, it saves time and works simultaneously with the second machining station, delivering a significant gain in productivity in most cases," said the spokesperson.

Starrag offers a customized turn-key service to help customers optimize cycle time. Services include the initial project application request on through the production solution being installed at the customer's site.
