Ensure Automotive Part Quality in Machining Production Lines

NewTek Spring-Loaded LVDTs are designed to provide tight tolerances of automotive parts and sub-components in automated production lines. Serving as part of the quality control process, the Spring-Loaded Gage Heads measure the tolerance of specific points of a part when placed in a test stand after leaving the casting or machining area of a production line.

In this high-cycle gauging application, the sensors make multiple contacts with the auto part, taking precise measurements used to determine if it is in or out of tolerance. "Offering high repeatability, rugged construction and intuitive installation, NewTek Spring-Loaded LVDTs are the ideal technology for ensuring the quality of automotive parts such as chassis components, transmission components, cases, as well as large brackets," said a company spokesperson.

"The high repeatability and rugged construction of the LVDT make it reliable for well over 1 million cycles with near zero drift," added the spokesperson. With measurement ranges of ±0.04" to ±2", the gauge heads operate over a wide operating temperature range (-65 °F to 185 °F) while performing at a linearity ±0.15% of full range. In addition to its standard, off-the-shelf units, NewTek Sensor Solutions offers its Spring-Loaded Gage Heads with a variety of custom options including right angle connectors, temperature ranges up to 400 °F (200 °C), mild radiation resistance to 30 MRad, pneumatic probes and custom spring rates.

NewTek offers both DC- and AC-operated versions of its Spring-Loaded LVDTs. While DC versions offer the convenience of internal electronics, the AC units can tolerate hostile conditions such as high temperatures and vibration that can exceed the electronic limits of DC-operated sensors. NewTek's NTC-6000 signal conditioner provides the electronic excitation to the AC-operated sensor and converts measurements to a variety of output options including DC voltage, 4-20 mA current and RS-485 digital for input into a PLC.
