Collaborative Robot Lineup

FANUC America recently introduced and demonstrated the new CR-14iA/L collaborative robot (cobot), along with its five additional cobot models. The FANUC family of cobots can handle products from 4-35 kg. They feature built-in sensors that allow them to work safely alongside people in a variety of industrial/manufacturing jobs including machine tending, dispensing, inspection, kitting, palletizing, e-commerce and more.

FANUC demonstrations highlighted the cobots' ease of set-up and programming:

  • FANUC's CR-4iA, CR-7iA, CR-7iA/L and the new CR-14iA/L cobot were equipped with different types of grippers used in industry (Schunk, Schmalz and Piab) to demonstrate a variety of pre-programmed movements.
  • A FANUC CR-35iA cobot used PalletTool Turbo to palletize/de-palletize cases at high-speed collaborative motion (650 mm/sec). The robot's integrated iRVision located cases for pick and snap on the fly.
  • A FANUC CR-15iA cobot was programmed in two operation modes. First, the CR-15iA used iRVision to locate, pick and place a heavy package of wrenches on a counter. Second, the robot was switched to an interactive user mode.

FANUC's cobots are equipped with FANUC's iHMI intuitive touchscreen user interface that includes step-by-step programming instructions right from the teach pendant. "Simple and straightforward programming helps reduce costs associated with operator training, minimizes set-up time and increases system productivity. In addition, FANUC's Hand Guidance feature allows operators to teach a cobot by leading it through paths at the press of a button and/or use it to lift heavy objects manually," said a company spokesperson.

FANUC's cobot series offers the following features and benefits:

  • The CR series of robots operate at speeds of 500 mm - 1,000 mm/sec. while in collaborative mode.
  • CR-15iA offers a 15 kg payload, 1,441 mm reach and floor, ceiling and angle mounting options.
  • CR-35iA is a floor-mounted robot providing a 35-kg payload and 1,813 mm reach.
  • Four compact variants: CR-4iA, CR-7iA, CR-7iA/L (longer arm) and the CR-14iA/L have a 550-911 mm reach and 4-14 kg payload capabilities with floor, wall and ceiling mounting options.
  • The FANUC hand guidance function is available for all FANUC CR collaborative robots. It allows users to teach their cobot by leading it through paths and/or use it to lift objects weighing up to 35 kg.
  • FANUC's hand guidance is also available for most yellow robots (non-power and force limiting) up to the M-900iB/700, providing the ability to easily teach robot paths or use the robot as a lift assist for products up to 700 kg.
  • Safety rated contact stop detection and green exterior color.
  • Supports FANUC's latest intelligent functions such as iRVision and Force Sensing.
  • Designed to meet the safety requirements of ISO 10218-1:2011 and RIA/ANSI R15.06-2012.
  • The latest R-30iB Plus controller features an intuitive iPendant with enhanced screen resolution and more processing capability compared to previous versions.
