Software Upgrades Improves Machining Estimating

MTI Systems offers the latest version of its cost estimating software, Costimator Version 12.1. The cost estimating software system calculates cycle times and the cost of manufacturing a part or assembly based on the capabilities of the suppliers' equipment and its shop rates.

In this version, estimators now have the ability to instantly size cost model windows as they build, expand and analyze the information in them. Over 24 new cost models were added offering new options for machining, other manufacturing processes and outside services.

This update also includes a new request for quote (RFQ) report that offers estimators and purchasing a method to quickly distribute a collective list of materials and purchased items.

The RFQ report automatically collects material and purchasing item descriptions and quantities. It converts data from Costimator to a single easily readable format made readily available for the buyer. According to the company, this saves cost estimating time and increases accuracy and consistency for the purchasing team.

"This new RFQ export dramatically reduces estimating time," said Aaron Martin, Cost Estimating Manager for MTI Systems. "It also reduces the usual tedium of search and collation, which significantly reduces the risk of transposition errors - especially important when customers request multiple re-quotes long after the quotes have been submitted.

"Each new software version provides customers opportunities to work with more work center choices, more elaborate cost models and greater manufacturing process cost estimating configurations. While upgrades are not always necessary, they do provide more estimating options, and coupled with additional manufacturing data, offer more ways to save time estimating parts they make or buy. This version continues to reduce subjective decision making while saving time, adding consistency and more accuracy to the cost estimating mix."
